It is as follows “Mr Finlay, Chairman of the School Committee, was appoin'ed by tho rest of the members to get tho fence erected once more, but 1 suppose we have put the fear of death in him as nothing has been done to it.’’ Now, Mr Editor, I respectfully submit that this is really too much of a good thing, and carrying the joke just a shade too far. Regarding the quotation, simply on its merits as an elegant extract of English pure aud undefiled, none would he more willing to admit its excellence, ns I consider it a gem of the first water," and Worthy of a place in tho pages of any of our best authors. Bat what I object to is this, that your readers are invited to believe that my dread of t’ e “King of Terror's ’’ is inspired through the awful mediums of “ An Alexandra Dunce ’ and a four-wire fences a conclusion utterly at variance with all my own convictions on the subject. If it is not an impertinence, I would lake the liberty of strongly advising your enrres pondentlo give up this penny-a-lining business,. and devote himself exclusively to s ime more useful pursuit, a step which would doubtless confer an infinite obligation both oft the printer and a long-suffering public.—t am, &c., Robert Finlay.
