Statement df gold forwarded by Escbrt to the Chief Gold Receiver Dunedin, froraClydc, 17th October, IS7G, by Mr Inspector Moore:—
In a late issue we mentioned that amongst thesporting men of the district the formation of a gun club was mnotel. Since then the thing has taken practical shane, and a Club numbering some 20 lias been formed. The first meeting took place on Saturday last at Messrs Turnbull’s Moutero Station, when the principal cm it was a match of 10 birds each, sides of 4 each from the East and West sides of the Manuherikia. Mr Stronach selected the team for the E. sideand Mr R. Stewatt for the West. By the return appended it will he seen that the East gained the day by five birds. On die ties shooting off—three birds each—the West, had the best of it, Mr Dalgleish killing the three, Mr Stewart two, Mr Bees one, and lur C. Turnbull one. After the shooing several foot races were ran, when the West was again victorious. The day being fine a most enjoyable time was spent.
