Dunedin, Oct. 12. ‘The case against William Wilfrid Wilson has been dismissed, the’“Bench expressing surprise'at Stamper’s action on such weak grounds, and said that no perjury had been committed, and that therefore ho would leave the Court without a stain on his character.
The Mate of the' Beautiful Star has had his Certificate suspended for two months, and mulcted with the Costs of the enquiry. Mining on unsurveyed lands comprising the Cromwell Town Reserves, Commissioner is to take such action as considered advisable.
■James Ure Bussell, charged by Mr Smythiea for perjury has been remanded, to allow of evidence being brought from Wellington, bail being taken. Mr Manders, M.H.R., sajs, that the Government measures'are like pearls cast to unappreciable animals.
William Connor has been fined LlO and LI costs for presenting a pistol at one Ah You, a Chinaman, at Macraes ; he pleaded drunkenness as an excuse.
Smyth and Go’s plate laying contract has been extended to the Round Hill Tunnel.
At the Kumara rush the gold is very patchy. The shafts require close slabbing. Wages have fallen. There is little work to be got, and what little there is, is done by contract. The “ hard-ups ” are leaving. There will be no gold of importance ■ until water is fetched in.
