CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting (adjourned) was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday last, the 19th inst., at 8 p.m. Present—B. Naylor, Esq., (Mayor), and Councillors Welsford, Fache, Joss, and Beck. The minutes of last meeting and of special meetings were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and adopted. The inward was read and received. Letter from Provincial Secretary of Works to the effect that Government could not recognise the claim of Council for money compensation in consequence of delay in opening of Clyde Bridge, through non-comple-tion of approaches, was ordered to lay on the table. Letter from Provincial Treasurer, notifying that subsidy for road to Wai Keri Keriwas paid into Bank of New South Wales, to credit of Corporation, was ordered to be acknowledged. Tenders for Toll-keeper’s bouse were opened, and after discussion, that of Mr J. U. Cambridge was accepted, a condition being that work to bo completed in a fortnight from date.

Accounts in connection with ceremony of opening the Bridge, repairing Town Hall, salaries for the past quarter, advertising, &c., in all amounting to LB4 IBs, were, on recommendation of Finance Committee, passed for payment.

Resolved—That Vincent Pyke, Esq - , M. H.R., be written to, requesting him to bring before Parliament the desirability of taking over all bridges on main lines of road j and that he will move for a sum to be placed on the Estimates for the immediate construction of the road from Butcher’s Gully to Clyde Bridge, as surveyed, the said bridge being comparatively useless to the travelling public without the road. Resolved—That this Council desires to record its very sincere and hearty thanks to B. Naylor, Esq., Mayor of Clyde, for the handsome and hospitable manner he entertained his guests and other visitors on the occasion of the opening of the Clyde Bridge, and at the Ball held in the Town Hall in the evening, such hospitality redounding alike to the .credit of the entertainer and to the town of Clyde. Resolved—That the Town Clerk, by letter, convey the thanks of this Council to the Clyde Brass Band for their valuable services on the occasion of the opening of the Clyde Bridge, and at the Ball in the evening. The Town Clerk was instructed to prepare statement of assets and liabilities, to have his books audited, and to convene a special meeting of Council for inspection of same before the close of the present Municipal Year, 31st July, 1876. The question of tolls on Bridge was now discussed, and it was decided that the rates as on notice hoard be adherred to, except with respect to waggons and tonnage, which for the time being are not to bo charged for. The usual vote of thanks to the chair terminated proceedings.
