ELECTION OF MAYOR.
—o— On Saturday last tho nomination of candidates for tho office of Mayor of tho Municipality of Clydo, took place in front of tho Town Hall. Mr C. P. Beck, Acting Returning Officer, having explained tho business in hand, called on the Town Clerk to read tho notice calling for nominations, which being done tho Clerk then read tho only nomination ho had received, viz., that of B. Naylor, Esq., proposed by Mr Joss, seconded by Mr Parkes. Mr Beck said there being but one nomination he had but to declare Mr Naylor duly elected Mayor of Cl) do for the year ending 31st July, 1877. Mr Naylor camo forward and said—Ho sincerely thanked tho ratepayers for tho continued confidence they had in him. This was the fourth time he had been elected as their Mayor, and he felt highly proud of tho honor. During his tenure of tho office tho bridge across the Molyneux had been commenced and finished, and that must bo admitted on all sides as no mean undertaking for a community so comparatively small as Clyde. The next most important work was Water Works, and he hoped before he retired from the office of Mayor to see them finished. In again thanking them he would say he had ever worked for the well-being and prosperity of Clyde, and would continue to do so.
