WASTE LANDS BOARD.

At the meeting of the Waste Land Board held on Wednesday the sth instant, Messrs Gillies, Street and Hislop applied for reconsideration of the decision of the Board re application for land in the Leaning Rock district. Mr Denniston, for Messrs Hanlon and Keleher, opposed the application. Mr Hislop introduced a deputation from the miners in the district.—Mr Hastie said he was one of the party who were construct iug the race which coat over L 7,000, and was forty miles in extent. Within a month of the completion of their work they found the ground taken away from them. They had proved to the Warden’s satisfaction that the ground was highly auriferous, and they valued it as high as L6OO an acre.—The Chairman : We are bound to presume that the Government made proper inquiries before approving of the sale. It was on their suggestion that we sanctioned it. Mr Hastie : Then it is a cruel shame, Sir, because we have been misled.—The Chairman, after some further discussion, said : It is the opinion of the Board that a rehearing of this case should be granted, say this day week, .

At tho usual weekly meeting of the Waste Laud Board held on Wednesday last the 12fch instant, a rehearing of the above took place, hnt the Government adhere to resolution to sell, unless those interested in opposing the sale find the money to pajcompensation. The Board then adjourned the case for one month to enable (if possible) the parties interested to come to some arrangement.
