The minutes of previous meeting, were read and confirmed.

Inward correspondence : From F. J. Wilson, conveyin'; an opinion that he would not advise the Corporation to rent any of their rights to water from the Wai Keri Keri Valley under the Mining Right, hub saw no objection to the Corporationtlettiug water in terms of the Municipal Corporations Act, the lessee to pay all expenses of agreement. From Colonial Secretary’s Office, accompanied hy cheque— 17s lOd—balance of General Government grant on rates collected.

Outward correspondence -To Mr J. Holt, relative to the muddy ctate of the water flowing into the town. The correspondence as read was received and adopted Resolved, after some discussion, That the Corporation rent to the Golden Gate Water Race Company their right to one head of water from Itho Wai Keri Keri Creek, at 10s per week, a condition being that agreement to cease on one week's notice being given, and that lessees pay all costs of agreement.

The Finance Committee and Mayor were empowered to prepare the statement of estimated receipts and expenditure for the year 1876-7, in terms of the Municipal Corporations Ordinance.

Cr Welsford asked if it was known when the bridge would be opon for traffic, and if there was to be any demonstration on the day of the opening. The Mayor said he did not know when the bridge was to be opened. Mr Fergus, District Engines* - , had informed him the approaches would he completed, or might be expected to be, in about a fortnight. If there were any of the Councillors who were ignorant of the fact that the bridge, so far as their part of the work was concerned, was completed in February last, he would inform them that it was, and he would say that it was solely through dilatoriness—whether of the Government, the District Engineer, or the contractor of the approaches he could not say, but at the door of one must be laid the blame—that the approaches were not finished by the same time, and the bridge opened. Cr Beck asked how much money had been paid on account of the contract for the bridge. The Town Clerk said over LSOOO ; there was only a balance due of L 371 7s 6d.

Cr Beck thought that jby far too much was paid. It was explained that the Finance Committee had paid according to certificates from Mr Fergus, the District Engineer. After discussion it was thought for the direct loss the Corporation of Clyde had and were still suffering in the matter of interest and loss of revenue from the bridge, they had good grounds for a claim for compensation from the Government.

In reply to a question, the Mayor stated the understanding with the Government was that the tolls were to be the same as those charged at M'Cormack’s Victoria Bridge.

The Town Clerk was instructed to write to Mr M'Cormack for a scale of his charges. The Works Committee were authorised to arrange for the erection of toll-house, and have wires fixed along the sides of the

bridge. Kesolved, That applications be invited from persona to act as toll-collector, &c., salary LIOO per annum. (See advertisement.)

Accounts amounting to Ll6 13s 9d were passed for payment. An account from Mr Forster for supervision was ordered to be returned with a note to the effect that Council do not reeogn'se their indebtedness. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
