CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly' meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening, the Bth inst. Present—B. Naylor, Esq, (Mayor) ; aild Councillors Welsford, Beck, Haslle, Joss, Fache, and Mosre. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The correspondence ; also telegrams to aid from T. L. Shepherd, Esq., M.H.R., re, the Clyde Water Works Act, were read and received. Messrs M'Connochie and Cambridge were appointed Assessors for the current Municipal year. Fees, L2 2s each. A discussion then took place relative to the Bye Jaws. The Mayor said the Bye Taws were approved of by ilis Honor the Superintendent; Regulations, however, under the same were required, and he considered that it would be better to instruct Mr Wilson to prepare same—lt was ultimately resoluid that the Suggestion be carried out. In discussion on the position of the Corporation’s water rights, the Council approved of telegram to Mr T. L. Shepherd. M.H.R., re Waterworks Act ; and instructions were issued that further telegrams be sent to hlr Shepherd, also to Mr Pyke, and that letters he written to each gentleman urging on them to use their utmost exertions in having the Act passed this Session. Accounts, amounting to L 34 2s 3d, were passed for payment. The question of,the applicatiouof Messrs Strode and Fraser far their pre-emptive right ■on Caimmuir, was now discussed. I', was pointed out that though the local Land Board had granted the application, Ilia Honor the Superintendent had the power of refusing same within thirty days of the granting,of the certificate ; and it was suggested that this Council memorialize His Honor the Superintendent to refuse the application, on the ground that it would be highly detrimental to settlement, and against public policy to alienate the only ■available block of agricultural land on the West Bank of 6h« Molynoux. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the proceedings.
