A Londoner who crossed from Canada to Ogdenshurg asked his hack driver as to the population and form of government of Ogdenshurg. On being informed that it was an incorporated city, the chief executive officer of which was a mayor, he_ inquired, “ And docs tho mayor wear the insignia of office?” “ Insignia—what’s that?” asked the astonished hackman. “Why, a chain about his neck,” explained tho Cockney. “ Oh, bless you, no,” responded tho other “ he’s perfectly harmless, and goes about loose."
