The following quantities of gold were taken to Dunedin by the Escort which left Clyde on Monday last:—

DELAY OP THE CROMWELL MAILS. (to theTeditor or the dunstan times. ) Sir—l perceive in tho Cromwell Argus that complaint is made of the non-delivery of the Dunedin mails on Friday last. In explanation I must say that no blame can be attached to the coach proprietors or drivers. The Mail did not arrive from Lawrence until Friday evening, and tho Queenstown coach was compelled to leave with the Escort on the same morning? Had it not been Escort day, a coach would have been sent up part of the way to meet the one from Queenstown with the down Mail, and the same process would have been repeated when the Dunedin Mail did arrive, hut owing to the Escort requiring the heavy coach such could not be done. The Mails have always been carried since I have been on the road with the greatest punctuality, such as they never were before, and this is acknowledged by everyone. Your’a, &c, T. Parsons, Driver.
