A COUNTRY SCENE.
** v Xil A UVUi.I JJ, (TO Tltli EDITOR OK THE DUN’S TAM TIMES.) Sir Not many weeks ago, while wending my way along one of t’.io busy streets of an up-country township, the thought came into my head that I could do a feed, and being in the vicinity of a well-known and noted bouse for a good plate of soup, I opened the door and stepped in, and to my great satisfaction I found the table already spread with the necessary tools, &c., for the assistance of those who wore fortunate enough to make use of them. I had just taken a seat by the fire, and was conversing with a few friends, who, like myself, were waiting patiently for the, arrival of the smoking hot tureen, when, to my great surprise the door flew op^n, ! and sn, tollM a somewhat bloated.gent, who appeared to be about three sheets in the wind. The stout party, however, took a scat very quietly, and from the attention my friends paid him I supposed he was a man of no small heer. Not long was I kept in suspense as to his lordship’s importance, for to my astonishment and utter disappointment my noble, in bioken sentences, indirectly gave me to understand that, as he had ordered this to be a select dinner, I had come into the wrong shop. Whereupon the stout party, at the request of a friend, adjourned to the bar, there to indulge in Ms usual drop of best brandy, which being of the “Star ” quality, caused him to let off steam in something after the following style : “ Look you ’ore, Mr Landlord, I ordered this to bo a select dinner : I don’t want any scrubbers. If you don’t clear the room I will by quick, and you too ; da ya eear !” - Of course I felt very frightened, and thinking his “Three Star ” courage might cause him to put his threat into execution I immediately made myself scarce, followed, however, by the apologising landlord, who led ua to another apartment, where, in peace and quietness, I was enabled to satisfy the appetite 1 had when waiting for the soup.— I am, &c., Lower Class.
