ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday, January 20, 1875. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The letters left over from last meeting were read—From the Library Committee, asking the Council what they would take in satisfaction for the debt owing by them to the Corporation. Resolved—That, as no definite offer from the Library Committee has been made to the Council they cannot entertain it.
Resolved—That the offer of 14i. for the Corporation boxes, from the Lessees of the Race, be referred to the Finance Committee to settle.
The letter from tfr Wilson, Solicitor, in answer to questions from the Council as to the action they should take to obtain the benefits of the Municipal Water Works Act, 1872, was postponed for further ci nsideration.
Resolved—That tho rate for the current year ending August 1,1875 be fixed at nine pence in the pound. The Mayor stated that at a public meeting of the inhabitants in reference to the making of a road to tho Waikai Bush, it had been resolved to request tho Council to carry out the object.
Tho Town Clerk was instructed to write and ask the Corporations of Clyde, Cromwell, Nftfleby, and Tevigt, also, Blacks’
Progress Committee, their co-operation in petitioning the Government to make the proposed road into the Waikai Bnsh.
The Town Clerk was empowered to procure* box, grating, cement, &0., that was required foi the new culverts at the bottom of Tarbert-ntreet.
Resolved—That the Town Clerk vyrits to the General Government ifttdopies of all the Acts passed in the in the Sessions of 1873-4. i
The audited statement of accounts for the year ending Doc. 31, 1874, was laid upon the table. Being examined, and duly signed by the Mayor, the Town Clerk was instructed to advertise the same in the usual manner.
A suggestion of the auditors to the effeet that a book should be provided to keep an account of all monies received, not otherwise provided for by block books was adopted.
Accounts to the amount of 81. 2s. wore passed for payment. Accounts from H. Tohill and George M* Donald were referred to the Works’ Committee for explanation.
The usual vote of thanks to the Chair closed the meeting.
