DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Committee of Management was held in the Committee Room, Town Hall, Clyde, on Monday, September 7th, at 8 p.m. Present—Jas. Hazlett, Esq. (President), in the Chair ; and Messrs Beck, Hastie, Auckland, Cambridge, Holt, J. E. Stevens (Acting Treasurer), and Geo. Facho (Secretary). The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The inward and outward correspondence was read, received and adopted. The Visiting Committee’s No. 1 report, which was received, contained the following suggestions : That a skylight for the purposes of ventilation be placed in the female ward ; with regard to the closets the Committee deemed it inadvisable under the existing financial condition of the Institution to carry out the idea of removing them to the river hank side of the building, as the cost would bo over LIOO.
Report No. 2, reoommeuding payment of accounts for salaries, supplies, kc., LBS I9s 2d, for the month of duly ; and LOO 2s lid, for August, was adopted. The account of Mr Collins T. Mario, for labor and coals, was referred back to the Visiting Committee to report ou same at the next meeting.
The Surgeon’s reports for July and August as follows were read and received : Report for July. Patients in Hospital June 30th ... 15 ~ Admitted during July ... 9 ~ Discharged ~ ... 15 ~ Remaining in House July 31st 9 The patients admitted were—from Alexandra, 3 ; Blacks, 1 ; Wia Ktri Keri, 1 ; Clyde, 1 ; Teviot, 1 ; Matakanui, 2. Report for August. Patients in Hospital July 31st ... 9 „ Admitted during the month 14 ~ Discharged ~ }0 ~ Remaining in House Aug. 31st 13 Both reports referred to the fact of an extra quantity of stimulants having been used during the month, and explained that some of the cases treated demanded the exhibition of stimulants, and further said that little hopes of the recovery of these cases were to he entertained. Liabilities— Passed accounts unpaid £136 15 6 The Secretary was instructed to write to the Resident Surgeon, and draw attention to Rule 9 of the Rules and Regulations of the Institution, which stipulates “ That forms of recommendation shall not be
available beyond twelve months from the date of issue j” and request him not to admit patients on forms bearing date beyond twelve months.
Resolved—“ That a special general meeting of subscribers be called for Saturday the 19th inst., at 11 [7a in., for the purpos of electing a Treasurer, vice Mr A. Christophers, resigned.”
Mr Hastie rose and said he would move that a vote of thanks be recorded in the minutes of the proceedings of the Institution to Mr A. Christophers, for the very valuable services rendered by him to the Institution during the many years he had occupied tho position of Treasurer, and that tho Secretary convey the same to him in suitable terms. He said that none could gainsay but that Mr Christophers had been untiring in his efforts for the advancement and well-being of tho institution, in that he felt assured all would agree with him, and further, would endor-e anything he might say in Mr Christophers’ favor. Mr Beck had great pleasure in seconding the motion. He would not go over the same ground as that by the proposer of the motion, hut by leave would add—That Mr Christophers’ name be inscribed on the list of Life Governors, in recognition of his past services ; also, that an illuminated address be presented to him. Mr Auckland, Mr Cambridge, and other members spoke in favor of tho combined resolution, all agreeing that the Committee would be lacking their duty if they did not murk their appreciation of Mr Christophers’ past services to the Institution.
The President said tho expression of good feeling of the Committee towards Mr Christophers’ he was assured would meet with a hearty response from the whole of tho subscribers. He had great pleasure in putting the motion, which was carried unanimously. Tho President, Vice-President, and Acting Treasurer were appointed a Sub-Com-mittee to draw up Address and have same illuminated.
Tenders for supplies for the six months ending March 12th, 1875, were opened, and the following accepted :—J. flazlett, provisions, wines, spirits, &c ; W. Brown, milk; Attfield and Welsford, meat ; J. Hastie, bread ; J. Holt, coals. Mr W. Auckland was elected a member of the Visiting Committee. The meeting then closed with the customary vote of thanks to the chair.
