ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE
— o — do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.] —o— EARLY CLOSING. {TO TUB EDITOR OF THE DUSSTAN TIMES.) Sir, —It was with great pleasure I noticed in your last issue, a letter 'treating upon the lateness of the hour the business people of Clyde consider it necessary to keep their shops open.—l need’ilot that the writer’s views in the matter entirely' correspond with mine and should, in my opinion lie supported by every rightminded individual. It is/true the actual labour in some’of these<houses of business does not necessitate much bodily exertion, but from/its continual bustle and anxiety, combined with close confinement, the brain through being over-tasked must become affected, the natural eonscquenee'of which will he that the unfortunate lover of long hours and drudgery is compelled to give up his hard earnings to Government, or some lucky relative while 0 hej’is provide ! with comfortable loggings in a lunatic asylum, or (perhaps what Would-be 'better) fall a victim to a'fpromature 'grave. And who would pity him ? Hoping this will bring ’forward some gentleman more deeply interested in the questionjthan myself, who/will endeavour to show some reason whyfour shops cannot be closed at the same hour as those in other up country towns, so’that the employees may have the’ same opportunity to enjoy that recreation industrious man requires, and which be demand. 1 am, &e., JUSTICIA. Clyde, Aug 20th, 1874.
