MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
OLY D E
The nominations for the office of Mayor of Clyde took place on Tuesday, at noon, on the steps of the Town Hall. Mr Councillor Clark, who had been deputed to act as Returning Officer of the Election having read the announcement of nomination, called on the Town Clerk, who read the nominations of Mr Benjamin Nayh r and Mr William O. Auckland.
Further proceedings were then adjourned till Tuesday, the 21st inst., the day appointed for the poll. Mr Benjamin Naylor came forward and said ho had, at tire request of a’numbor of rate-payors, placed himself again in nomination for ; iioffice of Mayor. During ensuing year works of some magnitude weie con-emplated being proceeded with, ami he thought, to carry out these works successfully, a man was wanted with something Jabove the ordinary business tact. \\ hoover was elected to the office required assistance from the Council, and he hoped the ra'c-payi rs would bear that in mind in Uo.ir selection of Councillors. If elected he would work for the benefit of the town and district. Mr Auckland said ho had not come for■ward in a spirit of opposition, but in the confidence of his abi-ity to occupy -the position with credit to himself and the town, and to carry out successfully the works contemplated. He would take the opportunity of making t known his views before the day of election. He would leave himself in the bauds of the rato-paycas. Mr Naylor proposed a vote of thanks to the Presiding Officer, and the meeting adjourned,
