CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Council was belli in the Council Chambers, Clyde, on Wednesday evening last the 17th instant, at 7, p m. Present—Mr. B. ‘Naylor,'[Mayor, J and Councillors Hazlett, M.P.C., k Aldridge, and Auckland. Minutes. The minutes of previous meeting was read and |received. CORRESPONDENCE. The inward and outward 'correspondence was read, received, and adopted. Inward. The inward consisted of the following— From Mr F. J Wilson, Solicitor, stating in reference to the title of Municipal sections on which the Town [Hall and Library are situate, that the original purchasei was one Fuller who sold to Edmonson, ami that he received only a paper acknowledging the [receipt of money]; that this paper is now in the hands of a third party, who will give it up on receipt of 10/., and recommending the Council so as to secure a good title to satisfy same ; from the Provide] Secretary'suffice, in rereply to memorial from the Town Council, praying that a »um ho placed on the estimates fur the building of a gaol at Clyde, a id stating that the Province was not in a position to accede to the request; from Mr James Tyrrell, asking for the formation of Hartlepmil-street ; from the Town Clerk, asking that commission]he allowed him on all moneys collected by him ; from F. J. Wilson, to the effect that the Bye-Laws of the town are slightly irregular, but that they could be made right by means of a declaration Outward. The outward] consisting of ajfletter to Mr Alves,! contractor, re the Library B lih.ing, was read and adopted.
Cr. Hazlett, laid on the table a letter he had received from the Government to the effect that whilst admitting the desirability of making the road from Butcher’s Gully to Clyde, via Earnscleugb Flat, regretted not having money to place on the F.stimates for the same ; also, a copy Bill enabling the Clyde Council to borrow the sum of 20,000/. on revenue or anticipated revenue. In consideration of the letter, re title of Municipal sections, it was resolved That Mr Wilson be instructed to make arrangements for completing the same. Resolved that the Town Clerk's letter stand over. Resolved that Mr ’Tyrrell’s letter be referred to the Public Works Committee. ■ The Mayor said he was sorry to say that nothing further w-ith respect to the Water Works Bill could be done until afresh survey and plans were prepared, but as there is a difficulty in getting this survey, there being no surveyor in the district, and the Government Surveyor could not do the work. He said he thought it would be well to send to Dunedin for one. He said as the difficulties with respect to the water were increasing, it would not do to let the matter test. After some discussion it was resolved that the Government he again asked to allow Mr Mackay to make the necessary survey. The consideration of forming the road to Alexandra was deferred. After soma discussion it Was resolved That tenders he called for kerbing am’, channelling South Ward. The Public Works Committee reported that they bad had the town thoroughly cleaned up by the removal of |the whole of the rubbish that had accumulated on vacant Sections and back streets, and suggested that ash-pits bo made.
Cr. Hazlett <1 id not think the latter suggestion would work, as people would not carry their ashes or refuse a distance to ash pita ;ha would suggest that the attention of the Inspector of Nuisances he drawn to the clean state of the Town, and requested to takejsteps to keep it so. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts wero passed for payment: —J. E. Thomson, 41.; James Patterson, 4/. Os- Cd. PUBLIC WORKS. Councillor Aldridge asked if it was intended to make a direct road to the ferry from Coquet-street. He said Mr M'Pherson, to accommodate the traffic, had built a good punt and was making a good approach to it on the west hank ; and he thought the Council should make a good and direct road to it on the east bank. Councilor Beck said there was already a very good road, and he thought the C mncil would not be justified in going to the expense ot another. It was ultimately agreed that, when the, road was made on the west hank, the Council might consider the question. WATKR-RIGHT. The question of the Corporation waterrights was brought up, Councillor Beck saying it would be better to bring them within the operation of the Waste Lands Act, and apply for them for domestic anti irrigation purposes. The Town Clerk wag instructed to take the necessary steps. The meeting closed with the usual vote of thanks.
