DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
—0 The election of Resident Surgeon to the above Institution took place 011 Saturday last, the Pith instant. Of the candidates for the office only two —Dr. 'Thomson and Dr. Stirling—received any recognition, as was showTCon’tha'declai'a tinn of the poll. Mr J. E. Stevens acted as- the Returning Officer, and shortly after the close of the polPofiicially proclaimed the result as follows : A. T. Thomson ... ... 112 11. "W. Stirling ... ... SC Majority .. 23 Dr. Thompson was declaren to be duly elected Resilient Surgeon of the Dunstan District Hospital. Dr. Thomson briefly returned thanks to those who by their votes had placed him in the honorable T positicn"he now held, and cunciuded by expressing the hope that-he would perform the duties of the office to which he had been appointed in a manner satisfactory to all. The great interest taken in the election, and we may fairiy’say in the (Institution, was evidenced by the number of votes polled,-'many of the valors coining over twenty miles to record, and must have been highly gratifying to the Candidates, as also +0 the Committee of management of the Institution. It was with the most profound regret however that wcnoticed'that the partisans of Dr. Stirling took the defeat of their candidate in anything but a kindly spirit, and, moreover, to hear their th r cats of withdrawing in future their'support from the Institution, We have every (confidence in the ability of Dr. Thomson to manage the Institution, and we doubt not he will, ere long, number" amengst his friends and supporters those who opposed him on Saturday last.
