CLYDE BORROWING BILL.
(Condensed from Hansard.) In moving the secod reading of this Dill in the House of Representatives, Mr. Macandrew said its object was to enable the Municipal Cor poration off Clyde to borrow a very modest sum, not exceeding 8 ( OQZ., for tire purpose of erecting a bridge across the Mo’yneux. Mr. Reynolds sard the Rill required very little explaii tiorr, as it bore its object in its face. The Corporation of Clyde wished to borrow S.Ofll f, upon security - of the rates tolls, and all other property which they had in order to build a bridge. Mr. T. L Shepherd said this Bill related to the district which he represented, and he wished to sly if this Ini Le were, made, it would ruin another township in the district Alexandra The ohj-ct of putting this -hr i Ige across the river was to divert the traffic, which at. pres- nt piassed through Alexandra, where the river was crossed hy means of a punt which had cost a very large sum of money. It would ruin tire party who put the punt on the river, also, the townsli’p. As s-on as the railway was in nle it would go through Alexandra, as being rhe best pdac-c to tap the Dunstan district, and if ho Corpoiatinn of lyde were allowe 1 to borrow this money, the inhabitants of Ah-xan Ira, which was a Governm-nt township, quite us large as Clyde, and where large sums of money had ho u invested, ought in justice he compensated. The Bill was read a second and third time. In the Legislative Council tits Bill was thrown out on tlr„ motion of the Honorable Mr. Sewell.
