Dunedin, Sept. IC. A rathe l- serious accident occurred yesterday afternoon to Cobb and Co.’s coach, beTokoraairiro and Dunedin. When near Scroggs’s Crock, Taieri, the coach was met by a ginger-beer cart, the horse in which became frightened and reared up, creating a great rattle among the bottles. This caused the coach horses to shio, upsetting the vehicle and seventeen passengers were precipitated over a bank some six feet deep, severely bruising several persons. Air. M. Marshall, late of Clyde, was' the principal sufferer, having sustained a fracture of the left arm, just below the shoulder. Mr. Marshall’s eldest son was very severely bruised. The funeral of the late Mr. St. John Branigan took place on Saturday. The attendance was large. Heavy rains continue, and a great portion of tha Taieri Plain is flooded. Sept. 17. In the House of Assembly, in reply to a question by Air. I’yke, Mr. Vogel stated the Government would endeavor to induce Victoria to establish a branch Mint in Hew Zealand. Air. Vogel introduced the Immigrants’ Land Bill, which provides that every immigrant paying his own passage money shall be entitled to a grant of land to the value of 20 1 , and the like quantity to each child, grand-child, nephew, and niece, and their families. The “Wellington Independent” says that, should the Council throw out the Provincial Loans Bill, a tax on property will bo the inevitable result. It is thought there will be a majority against the Government, in which case Parliament will be immediately prorogued. Wellington, Sept. 18. The Assembly demanded the production of the correspondence with the Agent General, which was suppressed by the Governor. The demand was granted, and the letter laid on the table. The Council have thrown out the Provincial Loans Bill by nineteen votes against twelve. Great excitement, aud business is suspended. A meeting of their supporters has been called by the Government. A dissolution is probable.
