An unusual kind of thief visited the house of Mrs. Wylie, at Newcastle lately. The family wore in the sitting room, after tea, when a large monkey, who evidently had got in from one of the upper windows, came into the room, jumped upon the table, snatched up half a pound of butter, and made a precipitate retreat by the same way it had entered the house. Chase was given after the burglar, but he escaped with the greater portion of his booty.
