NEVIS RACES.
Monday, March 17. That true, honest, legitimate racing, ■where it is devoid of the ring element, in spite of the many questionable occurrences that have taken place at one-meeting-or another within the past few months, is held in good-repute,-'was incontestably proved.on Monday last, St. Patrick’s Day, by the presence of a numerous assemblage- of people who had gathered on the Nevis Flat, to witness their annual equine trials of speed and endurance. From Clyde, Queenstown, Nokom-n, Cromwell and the surrounding hills and guilt-.a werecognised manyfriends an I acquaintances, and wc should say, if real good humour is any criterion of contentment, then all thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and none regretted the journey to that term incognita to so many of our readers, in search of a day’ amusement. The weather was gloriously line, being tempered by a cool refreshing breeze from off the auow clad heights of tbc Remarkable Mountains, at whose base the valley quietly rests, which, in a great measure conduced to the general success of the meeting.
