DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The usual monthly mee'ingof the Committee of management was held in the Town Hal), Clyde, on Monday, the 3rd instau I ', atßp.m. Present: Jam' 3 Hazlett, Esq., President, in the chair, and Messrs. W L. Simpson, Marshall Naylor, Auckland, Holt, Cambridge, Christophers (Treasurer), and Fache (Secretary). The minutes of the last monthly meeting were read and confirmed.
The inward and outward correspondence was read. It was moved, That the correspon'ence, as read, bo received and alopted. An amendment was moved, T hat the correspondence, as read, be reo ived and .adopted, with the exception of letter to Dr. Stirling, refeiing to the duties of the servants of the Ins itution. The Secretary said no definite motion had been tabled on the subject; but that a long and desultory conversation had taken place at the last meeting, and expla'ned that the letter in ■ Uiestion conveyed only the rensr of that conversation. He would wish that, in the future, definite motions on all matters be tabled, so that no similar question mi.hi arise. Several members of the Committee thought the letter was in accordance with the conversation at the last mee'ing. The amendment, after further discussion, was declared earned. The Visiting Committee’s report, No. 1, recommmding some internal fixings, was read and received. Report No. 2, recommending payment of accounts amounting to 128/. Ms. 4d., was lead and adopted. A goue rd discussion ensue 1 on the Resident Surgeon’s report, and the following instructions were issued : The Visitfnv Committee were instructed to have such repairs effected, and to purchase the artich s referred to in report of Surgeon and their No* 1 report. The Seiretary avas instructed to avrite to s weral holders of recommendation form?, asking that the circumstances of applicants for admission forms bo first inquired into before forms be i-sned, as it ha- come under the noti e of the Gcnenl Committee that peopl- we'l able to pay, in accordance avitli the rules of the Institution, avero admitted as destitute patients. Regarding the adraisfion of patients into the Institution avho avere in a position to pay for professional attendance. Mr. W. 1,. Simps n said it avas impossible to close the doors avainat any one presenting a paying patient’s form of admission, the i s itutiou avas for both rich and poor, an he thought to do so would be at variance with the objects of the Institution. He would never lend himself to raise another class of patients. He did n>t believe a line could be drawn. As to dis’r bating destitute patients’ forms, ho thought greater care should be cit i ed, as many doubtless got free relief who could well afford to pay. Tie thought out-door patients’ forms avore only for paupers. Resolved, That tho Secretary avrito to Dr. Stirling in reference to the admission of patients. Res lived, That the President, Treasurer, and Mr. W. L. Simpson be appointed a Committee to investigate into late charges of insubordination, to lay down a definite code of rules for tho guidance of the servants, and to make arrangements for the Resident Surgeon's boarding in tho Institution. Mr. W. L. Simpson was elected a member of tho Visiting Committee, vice Mr. J. U. Cambridge, retiring. Tho consideration o f tenders for supplies for the ciisuino quarter was now taken in hand, and tho following accepted Broil, P. Calder ; Meat, A tfield and Wtdsford { Groceries, Win s, and Spirits, J. Ilazlott; Bedding and Clothing, Brown, Ewing, and Co. ; Coffin?, 0. Hueston ; Burials, R, C. Moira ; Coals, E.
