—o— Tho adjourned Statutory Annual meeting was held iu the Library on Monday, the COth’of January, 1873, at 8 p.m. About twenty persons were present. Mr. Hazlett occupied the chair. The minutes of the meeting held on the 13th of January, 1573, were read and continued. Mr. C hristophers read the report of the Retiring Committee, and on tho'motion of Mr. by Mr. Marshall, it was received and adopted. Mr. Holt proposed, and Mr. Newell seconded a vote of thanks to the retiring Committee. —Carried. On the motion of Mr. fCambridge, it was decided that the Committee to be elected, consist of seven, andAou the motion of Mr. Hueston that the election be taken by ballot. The following gentlemen were elected:— Messrs.’ Hazlett, r Christophers, E Cambridge, Grindley, Wilson, Jones, and M’Connoehie. The meeting then closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.

Your Committee’s term of office having expired, they beg, in accordance with the usual custom, to render the Annual Report and Abstract of Accounts. The number of scholars on the roll at the close of the year appears as twenty-nine boys and twenty-eight girls—total fiftyseven ; and the average daily attendance for the last quarter, twenty-three boys and twenty-three girls—total forty-six. Thus showing an increase in the totals for the year of eight and three respectively. The first subject that engaged your Committee’s attention was the providing of a new school room. Afier conferring with the Education Board, and obtaining their sanction, and the promise of a grant of money from the Government and of sub. scriptions from the public, it was decided to call for tenders for the erection of a new stone building. Finding, however, that the tenders sent iu exceeded the School’s means it was resolved to modify the plans and to give the contract to Mr. John U. Cambridge. Your Committee have to congratulate I the town on the erection of a comfortable j and commodious stone building, with ample accommodation in the rooms for nearly twice as many pupils as at present in attendance. By the annexed financial statement it will bo seen that it cost 447f. 4s. lOd. Mr. It. lugs, having decided to leave the Province, resigned the office of Master in April last. Applications wero’accordiugly invited for a Master and Mistress, at a joint yearly salary of 225b, and Mr. Walter Jones temporarily enggaed pending the election, which terminated in the appointment of Ml 1 . and Mrs. J. E. Stevens, formerly of Camphollton, who assumed charge of the School in August. Application has been made to the Board for 25b for a Sewing Mistress, with a view of increasing the teachers’ salary to 2501. per annum, so as to be able to claim Mrs. Stevens’s attendance j iu the School during the whole day. Owing to the School’s financial position, and the new teachers having only had charge of qhe School for five months, your Committee concluded to distribute no prizes at the last examination. Towards the liquidation of the debt of 100b 15s. lOd. your Committee anticipate to receive promised subscriptions amount ■ iug to about 30b and a further small grant from the Government. In conclusion, your Committee desire to record their thanks to the several institutions and gentlemen who have liberally and cheerfully subscribed and assisted iu the raising and collecting of funds.
