GARDEN CALENDAR.

January.

Kitchen Garden.—The principal crops of the cabbage tribe for winter and spring use should be planted this month. Plant early cabbage about twenty one inches apart each way ; and late sorts, including cauliflower and hrocoli, two feet apart. Transplant leeks and celery ; sow spinach. During the first week, put in the. last sowing of peas, chcosing an early sort ; also make the last sowing of French beans, and the principal sowing of turnips. Sow turnip rooted radish and lettuce, on moist rich soil. Attend to the thinning ef late sown onions and other root crops. Take up and dry in the shade ripe onions, taking care not to bruise them. Stir the ground frequently between the rows of all growing crops, to admit air and moisture.

Fruit Carden —l'lum, cherry peach, nectarine, and apricot trees may now be budded. Remove suckers from grafts, and secure the young shoots from the effects of wind.

Flower Garden.— Increase pinks and carnations, cither by pipings or layers. Cut down geraniums as soon as they are done flowering, and set the cuttinps in a shaded spot, where they will soon take root. Thin mignonette and other choice annuals. Keep every part of the garden free from weeds. Hoe, if possible, during bright sunshine ; and this, if properly done with the Dutch hoe, will both kill weeds and destroy slugs—which latter are very destructive at this season, parttcalvly on damp ground.
