The following from a letter from a gentleman residing] in Victoria is published in a Dunedin journal “ Owing to the prevalence just now of snakes in Victoria, every household ceases business at 2 p.m. for the solo purpose of killing in-door snakes. Large snake-killing cats are worth half-a-crown and terriers a couple of pounds each. Six snakes twero under my pillow all night recently, unknown to me. I got up at daw n, feeling queer, when I saw the pillow move, and immediately, with help, placed a safe on it, About two o’clock we removed the snakes* which wore crushed but not quite dead. As a rule upwards of ,oue hundred snakes are found daily in a smalljlioUsc.’’
