Second Day, Friday, Dec. 27.

The day at early dawn -promised to he sultry, and sultry—we may say hot—it was, while the dvst added very considerably to the discomfort of the very fair number of visitors on the course. For the Maiden Plate Boomerang and Flora were scratched, leaving the race to Malice and 'Wexford, the lottei (it is rumored) beb'g only started on condition of his owner receiving half the stakes. By the scratching -of Tambourini, the Handicap Hurdle Race became a mere gift to Sir Tatton. For the Jockey Club Handicap, Atlas was the first favorite, it being considered lie was very favorably weighted; hut his backers were disappointed, as he only succeeded in gaining third plnnp The Golden Cloud took the Hack .Selling Race, after a sharp competition with Fenian. Brunette won the "Consolation Stakes, beating her only competitor by some twenty yards. On the whole the day’s racing was not up to the usual standard. Hatred, Boomerang, Golden Cloud, and Flora also started. This was undoubtedly the best race of the meeting. A capital start was effected. Tambourini led the way, followed by Atlas, Burgundy, and Hatred. After the first mile Burgundy went to the front, and though bard pressed by Tambourini, won by about half a length. Mr. Wood's Nelly, 50yds. (Goodman) 1 Kane’s Tommy, scratch ... 2 Mr. Jolly’s Lucy, Mr. Jones’s Charlie, and Mr. Marsh’s Charlie also went for the race, the two former receiving fifty and the latter three hundred yards’ start. Goodman succeeded in taking the mare round without a break, winning easily by some ninety or oile hundred yards. Two or three foot-racing contests closed proceedings.
