Grevil'e and Co. have arranged with the Anglo - Australian Telegraph Agency for the r. ceipt of cablegrams, and that ten days hence they -expect, to be in leceipt of regular commuircition direct from the London Times office. This will no doubt considerably interfere with the demand for the journals compiled in the mother country for the information of New Zealand and other colonial reader s. A branch of the Rank of Otago is to he established at Cardrona. One of the gentlemen in the Queenstown branch is to be located there. We are glad to notice that Mr. A. Pv. B. Mr. Braithwaite of Dune 'la is the accredited Agent, and will supply copies post free for one shilling. Our Dunedin exchanges convey to us the mournful intelligence of the death of Mr. George Brodie late accoun‘ant in Bankruptcy at -he early age of 39 years. Mr. Brodie in the early days of Clyde was a resident amongst us and occupied a prominent and useful position in our midst. For a time he was proprietor of this journal and by his writings conduced greatly to place Clyde in the position sbe now occupies. There are many still amongst us who «ill remember tbe familiar face and figureof George Brodie and none wo ars sure but that will join with us in saying requiescat in pace Messrs. O’Brien, Glover, and Wostropp, most ably and prominently assisted by Miss Jessie Raymond, gave their popular entertainment, entitled “An Olio of Oddities,” at tbe Town Hall, Clyde, on Monday and Tuesday evening last. The attendance, considering we have lately received a visit from a troup of artists o' a somewhat similar character, and moreover that wo recently indulged in amateur performances as well, was very good, and the audience an appreciative one. The O’Brien ami Glover Company have earned a w ide and well-deserved reputation, which their performances have fully justified. Miss Jessie Raymond not only possesses a most pleasing voice, but a very considerable amount of stage ability, wliich her impersonificatmn of Maggie M'Farlane in the Bonnie Fishwife amply testified, the other characters in which were well represented ; while the Irish drolleries of Mr. O’Brien, the comic singing of Mr. Wcstropp, and the versatility of Mr. Glover combine to produce a really pleasant entertainment. This, pjn Tuesday evening, was supplemented by a dance, and twenty or more couples footed it merrily, to their evident enjoyment. On Wednesday the company played to a moderately-filled house at Alexandra. We believe it, to be the intention of these artists to pay another visit to this district, about the time of the usual Christmas festivities, when we hope their talent will be fully appreciated, and the pecuniary results satisfactory.
