THE LATE FILE.
(TO THE EDITOE OF THE DUMST.IX THIEL. )
Sir,—The cry, “ fire !” again has been heard, to the dismay of the poople of Clyde, and again has the fire been put nut without a very great loss. It has, I think, now be come apparent to most of all who have an interest in the town to take some steps for the formation of an efficient fire brigade ns a protection to one and all. This has been once or twice attempted before, though ineffectually ; but it should bo now taken in hand in such a way that the formation of such a body will be attended with success. I would propose that a public meeting be called by the Mayor, at the earliest date, for the purpose of taking the matter into consideration, and I have not the slightest doubt but that it would be successful. I would notice particularly, now tbat there are two fire insurance agencies in the tow n, it should not boa very difficult matter toobtam some assistance from those societies to cnabl“ us to purchase an engine powerful enough to utilise the water that we have at our command to suppress any lire that might hereafter happen, before one-half of the town is burned down. I am, &c., VOLUNTEER. Clyde, Oct. S, 1872.
