AUCTION BAZAARS IN AID OF THE FUNDS OF THE DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

Under the management of the Cromwell Local I ’ommittee of the Dunstan District Hospital, Messrs. Preshaw, Baird, Taylor, Coldough, dolly, Tait, aud M ‘Nab’ Secretary, one of the most successful of auction bazaars was held in Kidd’s concert- hall on Thursday night last, the l°th inst " The noble cause of charity gave a zest to the affair from its first being mooted till the last of the multifarious list of articles was knocked down. The gifts presented were of every class, and comprised an almost unlimitable number of fancy articles of B"rha wool and crochetof every design and color, the handy work of many “ ladi-s fair,” a number of sheep and other live stock, besides a heterogenerm s number of articles as the auctioneer’ advertisement gays, too numerous to particularise, suffice it to say the donors gave with no niggard hand, and, under the management of the Committee, the goods were displayed to the best advantage. A very large company was in attendance, and in response to Mr. Fache, as he suhmitaed article after article to competition, the bids were given with alacrity and spirit. The sale continued for about four hours, and realised the hand-' some sum of (including some few- pecuniary gifts) 97 1. 3s. Gd. Mr. Fache, in his du d capacity of auctioneer and secretary to the Dunstan District Hospital, briefly-returned thanks to donors and purchasers for their liberality, followed by Mr. Preshaw, who, after addressing the company present, proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Fache for his services, as auctb neer, and to Mr. A. Christopher for his presence. A vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Kidd for the use of the hall was received by a hearty hurst of anplause, after which the company separated.
