TOWN COUNCIL.
o : (TO THE EDITOR OF THE DHNSTAVTIMES.) Sir,—Your report of the last meeting of the Town .Council, is very much calculated to lead the ratepayers astray. In the first place, it must be unde r stood that the socalled Town race is not solely the property ,of the Council Mr. James Holt, sold half of hi* right to the Council, and retained the other half for his own private use. Mr. Feraud’s motion was, that James Holt take his portion of water, and allow the water that belongs to the. Council to continue to run round the town as usual, not as you stated, to take half of the town race. T seconded Mr. Feraud’s, motion to test the feeling of the meeting. It was not what I wanted. I wanted all the water to nm round the town, that is, Holt’s and the Council’s together ; therefore 1 was in favor of the Council giving Holt some assistance in forming the race, S'cing the town would benefit by having his portion .of water along with th' ira. I would s-rongly recommend the Town Council to have the agi cement between themselves and James Holt published, then the .’ratepayers' can judge for themselves in the matter, !•*.- _iYohrs,fi<C,_; ’’ ... v ; , m**. > ifAiLOE,
