Jackson, who was found guilty of an outrage on an old woman at Foots Cray, was sentenced to death, but the sentence was afterwards commuted to twenty years' imprisonment, the first three years in irons. The Government undertaker was guilty of disgraceful conduct in making a public show of the bodies of Nicholls and Lester. The proceeding was promptly stopped.
