CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
■» o A special meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers, on- Wednesday, the 29th of May 'at 10 a.m., to consider the letter from Messrs. M‘Lachlan and ,M‘Pherson- of Hockey Point, Upper Clutna, expressing their willingness to put on a punt to ply across the Molyneux at Clyde, provided the approaches were made. Present; J. Hazlett, Esq.. Mayor, and Councillors Clark, Naylor, and Patterson. Cotmcillor Naylor said it was patent to to everyone that to protect the trade of the town some steps required to he taken to place good and proper accomodation, for the traffic across the river, under the pres nt management the traffic and trade was being diverted ; an opportunity now presented itself to alter the state of things, and if advantage was not taken of it the Council would not be doing itg duty, he would suggest the Council should make a good approach for a punt on the town side of the river. Councillor Clark said he coincided with the remarks of Councillor Naylor, and would propose, That this Council offer to construct an approach on the Cl) de side to the punt proposed to be put on the river by Messrs. M‘Lachlan and M ‘Pherson, but, in the event of Messrs. M‘ Lachlan and M‘Pherson failing to put on a punt, the Public Works Committee be empowere! to make the same offer to any’ other person willing to put on a punt to the satisfaction of the Council, seconded by r Councillor Naylor and carried. Proposed by Councillor Clark, That the Town Clerk be instructed to write to Messrs. M‘Lachlan and M‘Pherson embodying the foregoing resolution, seconded by Councillor Patterson and carried.
