The following has been kindly handed to us for publication by Mr. T. L. Shepherd, Member for the District :—- The following reports from the above Committee were presented to the Council on the 17th instant. Interim No. 1. Report. —ln re Petition of 236 residents in the Alexandra District. Your Committee have carefully considered this Petition, praying that an extended commonage may be thrown open adequate to the requirements of the district, and taken evidence ; recommend that the Government should take all steps in their power to obtain 6,000 acres from the Hun leased to Messrs. Greig and Turnbull as an additional commonage for the inhabitants of Alexandra, or 5,000 acres from Messrs. Low and Campbell for the like purpose. THOMAS L. SHEPHERD. May 17, 1872. (Chairman.) Interim No. 2 Report.—ln the Petition of 46 Miners and residents at Moa Flat. Your Committee have to report the careful consideration of the above Petition, which prays that all auriferous land may he excluded from sale, and also to secure facilities for transit of water-races by them, and having taken evidence, recommend that all land sonth of the Benger Burn be reserved for mining purposes. Your Committee have to report that having considered the Petition of the residents of Alexandra, praying that more frequent Sittings be held of the Warden’s Court, and that the Clerk of the Court attend twice weekly instead of once, they recommend that the same be complied with, and that a moderate allowance he made to the Clerk of the Bench for travelling expenTIIOMAS L.
