CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Clyde Town Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday afternoon last, at 4 o'clock. ;Present: J. Hazlett, Esq., Mayor, and Councillors Brough, Hastie, and Clark. The Mayor said the object of the mating was to consider what steps should be taken w.tlj resptci to the Clyde Puut, which was unaMe'to ply, on account of the silting up of the river. He stated that he had waited oa [Mr. M'Pherson, the owner, and had pointed out to him the lenous iniury he was inflicting on the town by not keeping the punt iu working order, and had intimated to him that, unless means were taken to keep till traffic open, the Council would, in the interest if the town, have to step in. Mr. M'Pherson, in reply, had expressed himself unwi ling to incur the necessary expense, but had offered to dispose of the punt to the Council by arbitration or other-
wise. , A conversation ensued, during which the value of the present punt and the probable cost of building a new one was discussed, when it was resolved, That a suh-Com-mitn 0 no appointed to wait on M'Pherson, and ascertain on what terms he would dispose of the punt, and also to [ascertain the probable cost of a new punt of sufficient capacity to carry the ordinary traffic of the district, the Committee to comprise Councillors Naylor, Clarke, and Hastie.
