CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

— o —■ The adjourned monthly meeting of the Council w-as held in the Council Chambers, was held on Thursday evening, the 29th ult. Present : J. Hazlett, Esq., Mayor, and Councillors Brough, Clark, Hastie, and Patterson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Town Clerk laid on the table a letter from the inhabitants of the South Ward, praying that the Council would curb and channel the south end of Sunderland-street, below Cheviot-street. Mr. W. W. Wilson’s account of 94/. 3s„ for legal expenses in connexion with the water-supply scheme, was laid on the table, After some considerable discussion, it w-as resolved that the Town Clerk be instructed to offer to Mr. Wilson 70 1, as settlement in full of his account against the Corporation. The Town Clerk laid upon the table the report of Mr. Henry Young, who had been engaged by the Public Works Committee to inspect the route proposed to bring in a race from the head waters of the Hanging Rock Creek. The report was read, and was to the effect that, although the scheme was not impracticable, it could only be carried out at great expense, that during a portion of the year the supply would Bo cut off by frost, and that at no time more than one head of water would reach its terminus. He estimated the distance at from nine to twelve miles, and the cost at 150/. per mile. Proposed by Councillor Brough, seconded by Councillor Clark, That the petition of the inhabitants of the South Ward he referred to the Public Works Committee. Carried. The|electionJofjTown Clerk was proceeded with There were three candidates for the office—Messrs. Thomas Stanbrook, Richard Poole, and George Faohe. After a ballot had been taken, Mr. Fache was declared duly elected, by the casting vote of the chairman. The meeting terminated with ‘the usual vote of thanks.
