—o Tho usual Monthly Meeting of the Committee was held in the Town Hall, Clyde, on Monday evening, the- sth inst. Present; J. Hazlett, Esq., President, in the chair ; , and Messrs. Naylor, Cambridge, B<ek, [ Holt, Marshall, Auckland, Cox, arid G. Fache (Secretary). Dr. Stirling was also in attendance. The minutes of tho mcetincr of Committe he'd on tho sth of January, and also of a meeting of subscribers, held on tho 26th ult., were read. Resolved, That the minutes of the meeting of Committee be confirmed, and that the minutes of meeting of Subscribers bo signed by tho Chairman of tho said meeting. The Visiting Committee’s Report, recommending payment of accounts to the amount of 74J. Is. 5d., was read and received. The Treasurer’s Report, showing tho following figures, was read and received : Receipts. Subscriptions for the month ... £sl 7 6, Paying pa’ients .. .. 10 C 0 Government Subsidy ... 128 4 0 Disbursements. Accounts paid .. ... £153 17 0 Assets. Government Subsidy ... £9l 7 9 Liabilities. Accounts unpaid .. £559 5 1 The Surcenn’s report, as undo-, was read and received : Number of patients admitted during the month, seven; discharged, three; died, one ; remain’ng in house, ten. The report then detailed the nature of the comp’aints of patients, from whence they hid been .cut, &?. ; and notified that two patients had been sent in by TV. A. Low, Esq., of Gallowny Station, as a life subscriber, without tho requisite form of recommendation, and concluded by stating that two patients suffering from chronic disease had been sent to Dunedin. Reference was made to the Treasurer’s report : the heavy liability was touched upon ; and it was concluded that active measures must ho adopted to decrease it. The Resident Surgeon was congratulated on having reduced the expenditure, and hopes wore expressed that the low expenditure for the past month would be the rule, and not tho exception. A desultory conversation on the Surgeon’s report took place, during which several matters relating to tho Institution were imported thereinto. It resulted in several small works being authorized, and tho Surgeon being empowered to order a parcel of drugs for the Hospital; the Treasurer to assist in making up tho order. In reply to a question put by tho Rod dent Surgeon, the President said: Excep in cases of urgency, the rules of the Insti- 1 tution laid it down that no patient should bo admitted excepting on a proper form of recommendation. Tho circumstance of patients having been sent in by Mr. Low without the proper form of recommen lation was hero brought no, and it was rosolvo I, That the Secretary he instructed to write to Mr. I.ow, drawing his attention to the fact of his subscription being in arrear. Resolve 1, That Mr. George Fache be appointed Collector, at a salary of 50 1, per annum. Mr. Christophers raid, for his own part, he must regret that circumstances had compelled the withdrawal of Vincent Pyke, Esq., as President, anl Mr. R Barlow, as Secretary, from the Committee. Both gentlemen, in their separate capacities, had worke I energetically for the good of tho Institution, and ho would suggest that, in recognition of past services, they be made Life-Governors, and further, that a special vote of thanks be conveyed to them. A general endorsement of the remarks of Mr. Christophers was expressed, resulting in a resolution, That a black board, bearing tho names of Vincent Pyko and Robert Barlow, as Lifo-Governors, bo obtaiied, and that the Secretary indite a letter to each gentleman, conveying the thanks of th mmittee for past services. Some further discussion ensued, when it was resolved, That an illuminated audress, as a mark of appreciation, be presented to Mr. Barlow. The question of increase of tho Surgeon’s salary drew forth no opposition, ami it was resolved that the’salary bo 250(. per annum, Resolved, That a cordial vote of thanks be conveyed to Dr. Corse, of Cromwell, for his promptitude in attending to the call of the Committee during the absence of a Surgeon. Resolved, That an agreement be prepared confirming he appointment of Dr. Stirling. Messrs. Cambridge and Cox were elected a Visiting Committee.
