—0 The New York Journal of Commerce has the following : —There has been a good demand for sharpness and acuteness. We notice also some call for roguery and rascality. Selfishness is steady. Prudence ; Stock small, but the demand inconsiderable. Peculation and embezzlement looking up. Gross flattery active, with a rising tendency. Adroitness lying at a premium. Not much demand for truth, except in small quantities : holders firm. Candour unchanged. Uprightness has a downward tendency. Zeal lor the right, dull and quiet. Modesty has declined, Eight demand for justice; not much offered. Cunning more active than usual. A g >od easiness done in pocket-picking : would be more active but for the police. JSomethi"g done in suicide. Housebreaking rather active just now. Popularity : Many and lively bids at first and second call. Love of goodness and good men rather quiet Chaiity of the first Very little offered ; but lower grades in demand, especial y iithey promise good returns. Sincerity rather scarce, and demand moderate. Hypocracy : some stir; we may say active. A little doing in stabbing. Drunkenness: much offered, and a good deal taken. .Recklessness in dema»d. Foolishness: much in the market, and considerable quantities taken at high prices. Something done in over-trauing. Promises, intended to be broken : plenty. Honesty : firm, nut at low prices. Usury : rather flat. Extortion is flat aUo. Covetousness is more fatal than cholera.
