ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE

A CORRECTION. (TO THE EDITOR OF THE DUXSTAN TIMES.) Sir—ln noticing my intended resignation of my pastorate here, in the last issue of the Duiistan Times, you state that one cause of my leaving the district is, existing " unsatisfactory financial arrangements with my congregation." That statement scarcely places tho fact in its true li.jht. At the first blush one would suppose that, either through lack of interest or energy on the part of my office-bearers, or through the indifference and religious apathy of the people, our congreg .tional treasury was empty or but sparingly provided, and the minister irregularly, if not scantily paid, permit meto say, that during the past four years the Alexandra congregation have taxed themselves, formerly, heavily, latterly to the utmost for tho support of the ordinances of religion in their midst, and have honourably acquitted themselves in all their financial engagements with me. A nef-essity lies upon me to withdraw from public work for a short time. Whi'e I sever myself reluctantly frr.m my Congregation, I do so with the firm conviction that it will be for the furtherance of the interests of religion in the district, that one of greater physical powers than I posoas, shall occupy my room, and extend to some of the accessible outlying townships, the boundaries of a pari-h whose present population and resources are all too limited to admit of the exclusion ftorn its Clergyman's thoughts of those annoyances and cares from which it bshoves him to bo altogether free. I am, &c, C. STUART ROSS. The Manse, Dunstau Flat. Sept. 2, 1871.
