Admitted during the month, seven. Discharged during the month, ten. Died, one. Remaining August 1, fourteen. Daily average, sixteen an 1 two thirds. The patients admitted were from the following p'aces : —Cromwell, one. Clyde, one. Dnttedin, one. Drybread. one. Alexandra, two. Black’s No.’ l, one. Mr. Holt stated that the Surgeon had turned his horses loose in the garden, and that they had dune a deal of .damage to the I trees and beds. Proposed by Mr. Marshall, saconded by Mr. V. elsford, That the Visi mg Committee be requested to inquire into the matter reported by Mr. Holt, and that they be instructed to put a stop to it forthwith. Carried. The Secretary was instructed to write to those patients, (who had been in the Hospital, and were in a position to pay for their maintenance), forwarding them accounts, and requesting payment forthwith. Mr. Holt was re-elected a member of the Visiting Committee for one month. The President said the next matter to be taken into consideration was 'he reduction of subsidy. Without any gentleman was prepared with any definite plan to lay before the meeting, ho would' suggest that a snb-commiitce be eleclcd to report at an early date. Mr. Hazlett rose and said that the subject was one that could not be shirk'd. To carry on the Institution upon the same principle as heretofore was impossible, In his opinion there were various means bv which the expenses conld’ be reduced. By a lording a thoroughly strict dietary scale, much could be done. As nothing could be settled by flic general committee to night, he would propose, That a] suh-committee of throe be elected to draw up a report. Mr. W. Fraser said the action of the Provincial Council in re hieing the subsidy did not in the least take him by surprise. The duty now devolved upon them to act, and reduce the expenditure to meet their revenue. In many instances the Hospital was used more as a Hotel han a Hospital. Numbers received benefits from the Institution and paid nothing tlungh they were in a position to do so ; it was in that direction the Committee must look, he would second the motion. After some further discussion, the number of the sub-committee was increased to five. P opoaed by Mr. Hazlett, B"Conded by Mr. Fraser, That the President, vice Presided. the Treasurer, G, Fache, and the mover be appointed a sub-committee to inquire and report within fourteen days, as to the best means of reducing the cost of maintenance of the Institution.
