ST. BATHAN’S

(from our correspondent.)

A meeting of the residents of St. Bathau’s was held at the school house on Tuesday the 21st instant, for the purpose of considering the advisability of forming a local committee in connexion with the Dunstan District Hospital. Mr. George Burton was voted to the chair. The Chairman stated the meeting had been convened in consequence of there being no properly organised method of canvassing. He would suggest the propriety, (if the meeting decided ,to elect a com mittee) of placing gentlemen residing in Hill’s Greek and Welshman's Gully on it. He thought however that before proceeding further, it would be better that the Secretary of the Hos pital, (Mr. Barlow), should address the meeting.

Mr. Barlow said that in accordance with a resolution passed at the last meeiug of the General Committee, he had advertised the present meeting, and was then present to explain any thing connected with the management of the Institution the meeting desired. He thought most of those present would see the many advantages that would accrue to the hospital by the formation of a local committee. In the first place, the members of the committee being all residents would know best how and when to ask for pecuniary aid. Secondly, by canvassing their particular districts, they would enable the General Committee to abolish the office of collector, thereby effecting a considerable saving. Lastly as a body they would be able t) assist the General Committee by their suggestions in perfecting the management of the institution. Mr. Pyle moved :—That a local committee be formed, to consist of thirteen members—nine for St. Bathans, three : for Welshman’s Gully, and one for Hill’s Creek—five 19 foVm a quorum. The motion was secpnded by Mr. M'Connochie and carried.

•* The following gentlemen were then .elected for-. St, Bathans-r*-Messrs; George Pnrton, Thomas ' M!ulocy, William Pyle, senior, Patrick Kenny,

Richard Murray, Patrick Hanrahau, William M’Connochie, F. Turner and Thomas Rowe. For Welshman’s— Messrs. Benjamin Washer, John Griffiths and Robert Brown. For Hill’s Creek, Mr, John Rochfort. On the motion of Mr, Mulocy, seconded by Mr. Hanrahan, the first meeting of the Committee was appointed to bo held on the first Tuesday in April.

A vote of thanks was accorded to the Secretary of the Hospital, (Mr. Barlow) for his attendance, and a similar Mpte to the Chairman, brought the proceedings to a close.
