CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Clyde Town Council was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening. Present : The Mayor, and Councillors Clark, Hueston, and Patterson. The minutes of the previous meetings were read and confirmed. The correspondence was read and received as follows Letter from the Provincial Treasurer, enclosing draft for £l3l Os. 6d.; letter from Mr. Fowler, asking that, as his house had been unoccupied for the last year, his rates should be remitted.; from Mr. James Patterson, asking for lease cf land for briokmaking purposes ; from Mr. James Holt, relative to the litigation ro the water supply to the town, asking the Council to bear a share of the expenses he had been put to ; from Mr. C. Johnson, tendering his resignation of the office of Town Clerk ; from Mr. C. P. Beck, drawing the attention of the Council to the state of the crossing of the race at the upper end of the town ; also two offers to erect additions to the Town Hall. The Council resolved not to entertain the letter of Mr. Fowler, and to hold over the communication of Mr. Holt till the next monthly meeting. Mr. Johnson’s resignation was accepted, and.fit was resolved to advertise for a Town Clerk Mr. Beck’s letter was referred to the Public Works Committee. The Town Clerk was instructed to inform Mr. Percy that Constable Boyd had been appointed Inspector of Nuisances to the Council, in order that the appointment might bo ratified by the Commissioner of Police. The Finance Committee's report reeom* [Bending payments to fho amount of £23 W. Od., was adopted. Jt'The Town Clerk read the audited statement of receipts and expenditure for Hhe half-year. It was resolved to hold the water-supply scheme in abeyance until the present tion was settled. Hhl The Town Clerk was directed to write to the Chief Commissioner, to the survey and sale of the extra fifteen r feet of land on the west side of Sunder* land-street. The Council then adjourned until Wednesday next.
