CLYDE SCHOOL.

The annual public meeting for the pur* pose of electing a school committee for the Clyde district was hold in the School-house, Clyde, on the evening of the 9th inst. His Worship the Mayor occupied the chair.

Mr. Christophers, the Secretary and Treasurer, read the annula report, as follows :

“ Your Committee, in presenting their fourth annual report and “ abstract of accounts ” do so with feelings of pride for the continued success that has attended the School, and for the marked progress made by the pupilsfn their Several studies. “ The number of scholars on the roll appear as twenty four boys, and twenty three girls—total forty seven—and the average daily attendance, twenty one boys, aud sixteen girls—total thirty seven.

“ Immediately alter taking office your Committee had to take into consideration the appointment of a new Master, in the room of Mr. Clarke resigned. Mr. Edward Ings-of Warepa School, who was unanimously elected out of seven applications received, assumed charge of the School early in February last, and has since regular ly and efficiently performed the duties appertaining 'to 4110 post. “ Your Committee have great pleasure ■ in recording that a new commodious Master’s residence has been built, aud the fence and gates repaired at a total expense of £228. In liquidation of this amount, £IOO, Government subsidy, and about £54, from various sources has been received—leaving still a debt of £73 10s. 2d. This sum the Committee anticipate will be made up by a further grant, promised by tne Government, and voluntary subscriptions. “ During the year Mr. George having left the District, forfeited his seat if. the Committee, and Mr Pyue resigned in consequence of an insulting letter which appeared in the “ Tnapeka Times. "’ Owing to the annual election being close at hand, the Committee did not think it necessary to entertain the matter of supplying their places. “ The appointment of a pupil teacher and the erection of a new school-room has been under 'consideration—as regards the former, an answer is awaited from the Education Board. No satisfactory offer having been made for the present building, your Committee have not been in a position to take definite action towards the accomp ishmont of the iatter. It is to be hoped that their successors will shortly be able to supply these and other requirements. In conclusion yeur Committee desire to express their thanks to.the ladies and gentlemen who kindly gave their time and services and assisted in two entertainments in aid of the School funds, to the Clyde Corporation for the free use of the Town Hall, and to the public for the cheerful and liberal support accorded. ” Signed ou behalf of the Committee, M. Messrs. Pyke, Hazlctt, Hastio, Marshall, Newell, Ilncston, and Christophers were elected a committee for the ensuing year. A vote ot thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
