BLACK’S.

(from ouu own corhespondevt.) Mining matters are bidghtgjf here at present than for the last twelve months ; we are indebted in a great measure for the same to the fact of the drainage channel being completed, which was constructed at the joint expense of the public and the Go-' vernment; mining claims are taken up on either side of the said channel, which keep the claims free of water, with the exception of a lew pot ho es, the ground is very good in places, and I am informed that one party -has been making 1 21. per week per man for the last month, and that there is no party working lint is making good wages. There is room here foe a large increase of population, but 1 will state for the information of anyone seeing this, and intending to pay Black’s a visit that, anyone wishing to take up claims, would have to extend this drainage channel further up the flat at their own expense, the Government money being all expended, but it is not a very heavy job, should two or three parties join together and do the work; the way the claims are taken up is that, each party must take up his claim on one side of this channel, so as not to interfere with the working of as much ground as po sible. The Lawder Creek water-race is in full work with plenty of water, but they do not intend to wash up until Christmas. The Suspension and Golden Gate water-races are again in full work, having repaired the damage ■done to their fluming some lime since by the wind. At German will, the miners are begin! ng to compldn of a falling off in their supply of water, the same complaint is prevalent at Ida Valley and Maori Gully, but until lately, these localities have enjoyed the best season for water since the opening of (he goldfie’d.s. In farming matters, tilings are looking healthy, in fad, I never saw Black’s fiat 100 so well. At Tiger-hi 1 the crops are looking well, but not so forward as those on the flat, in consequence of 'he higher level. No doubt some who are large purchasers will expect horse-eed at a Very low figure after the Inrvest. I arn, however, of opinion that such will not be the case, as the consumption is yearly increasing, while the breadth of land under cultivation does not extend in proportion In fact, until we get a more liberal Land Law, we shall never grow horse-feed 1 enough for our our own consumption. ! Mr. Laurie, the manager of Messrs. I Glassfords’station, is giving notice to ev ryone who has a hm-se or cow running on the station, also to miners who have erected their lum-cs in such places as he considers will interfere with the working of die run, to remove the same ; but Mr. Laurie is much mistaken if be supposes he.caii compel the holder of a miner’s right to shift his residence at dictation. The miners at Tinker’s Devonshire, and Drybread are up in a v ms, They say they must keep horses to attend the Gourt at Black’s, a distance of eight nvles, and that they cannot afford to 1 keep them stabled with fed at the j present high priee. A great many | horse* are tethered, their owners pre i ferrieg to keep them so rather than having them driven away. 1
