RESIDENT MAGISTRATE,S COURT
(Before Vincent Pyke, Esq., R.M.) October 5. Regina, (Police Sergeant John Cassels) v. Cheong Ah Fat, arrested at Cromwell, and charged v, ith being a vagrant, having no lawful risible means of support. The Sergeant stated that the accused had been living lately at Riley’s Beach, and that the miners there had complained of numerous pilferings, both of articles about their tents and from tail races. The accused was suspected. He never worke , aad was an old offender, having been committe I before under the same Act, namely, on the 23rd of September, 1868, when he was committed to Clyde Gaol for three months, with hard labor. The prisoner was now sentenced for the same period but to undergo his imprisonment in the Dunedin Gaol where the appliances are better for making prisoners work, ns it appears he shirked the labor as well as he ■could when in the Gaol here at Clyde. James Holt v. Edward Morriscy. Claim for breach of contract for £34105, (a jourued case from the 6th to the 20th September last) £23 was paid into Court on the 20th of September. Judgment was now given for plaintiff for £5 15s. and cost of court, 255. to be paid in foureeen days. David M‘Con'nochie v. Nichol- Claim for £4 15s. for goods supplied. No appearance of defendant judgment for plaintiff for £4 15s and costs «f court 13s.
