THE MAYORALTY.
(TO THE EDITOR OF THE DHN3TAN TIMES.) Sir,—Permit me through your columns to say a few words respecting the forthcoming election for the office of Mayor at this place. 1 see by your last issue that there are two candidates in the field, viz., Mr. Theyers and Mr. Chappie, and as the feeling is likely to nlii high respecting the merits and demerits of those two gentlemen, and that one of them is reported to be making a personal canvass, must be my excuse for troubling you. Both have resi 'ed among us for the last seven years, and most of us know which of them it was that always took the leading and active part in any movement for the benefit of the district. But the moist serious part of the question is that the office of Mayor carries with it the distinctive J. P. Are both or either af these gentlemen competent to fill so important an office ? I will not answer the query myself Imt hope each elector will do so before recording bis vote, and further hope each elector will sink all personal feelings (if any) and vote for the Vest iflan for the benefit of the district. ■ •■.iJUft, &c., RATEPAYER.
