(Before V. Pyke, Esq., Warden, and J. Hazlett, J. P.) April 19th IS7O. R. Ridley was charged by the Polic’d with allowing billiards to be played in his house, the same not being lieonshd—Dismissed with a caution. RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT; (Before Vincent Pyke, Esq, R.M.) D. M‘Arthur was charged with using threatening and abusive language towards one J. Conn -w, provocative of the breach of the peace. Mr. Brough appeared for the complainant-, and in opening the ca=e, said, the accused had chosen a time and place; when no one else was present, consequently he hod no other evidence to produce, but that of the complainant. The evidence of complainant was taken, during which, lie said ho was in bodily dread of the accused, and that unless lie was protected, ha should ho compelled to leaye the district. The Magistrate stated, he regretted there was no corroborative evidence, thcrcfore ho could not commit, but would bind the accused over to keep the peace towards all Her Majesty’s.subjccts, lor the spact! of twelve months in two sureties of £SO jointly and severally, and himself in a like sum. V. Eraser, Esq., here took his seat on the Bench. J. Mellor v. Barnett. Claim of £4l, the amount of a dishonored Bill of Exchange. Mr. Brough for Plaintiff, and Mr. Bailey for defendant. Vehlict for full amount and £1 Cs. costs, i and £3 35., professional fees. Distress to , issue in seven days ; Leary v. Barnett Service of summons, i informality.— Struck out. ; Petty v. O’Halloran Claim £7 10s. for five weeks board and lodging for defendants i wife. No appearance of defendant--Judg- ■ ment by default for full amount claimed, and 135., costs.
