An accident, which fortunately was not attended with any serious result, occurred at Inch Clutha on M onday last. According to a correspondent of a Tokomairiro paper, Townsend’s thrashing machine was at work at Mr. James Wright’s when, from some unknown cause, one of the beaters of the drum became detached, and was driven with great force out of the opening from which the machine is fed. The feeder, James Barr, had moved the moment before or he would in all probability have lost his life. A man cutting bands, who stood close by, had his bat taken clean off his head by the broken piece in its flight. Luckily no one was injured. Daily Times.
