DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the CoinVnittce was held in the Committee room of the Town-hall, Clyde, on Monday evening last, at 8 p.m. Present: J. Hazlett, Esq. (in the Chair) and Messrs. George, Beck, 'Clark, Ferand, Paohe, Grindley, Naylor. Barlow, and Christophers (Treasurer). In the absence of Mr. 11. Bell, Manager of the Hough Ridge Quartz Mining Company, enclosing a cheque for £3 7s. fid., amount subscribe! by the workmen From 11. A. Stratford, Esq., recommending that George Joyce, of St. Bathan’s, having broken his leg, be admitted to the Hospital as a destitute patient. From agent to the Victoria Insurance Company, acknowledging receipt of £l7 10s. in payment of renewal of premium on Hospital building. From Secretary to Court Royal Oak of Kawaran—A.O. P., enclosing the 'Court’s yearly subscription. Outward ;To Provincial Secretary, enclosing report of Sub-committee on estimated cost of management for tbe present year and other inforhpalt (iu applied for To Mr. Bell, of tbe I Bough Ridge Quartz Mining Company, | tendering the thanks of the Committee for cheque. The patients were from the following pieces:—Alexandra, five; Clyde, three ; Bendigo, two; Monte Christo, two ; Ardgour, one; Manuherikia, one; Bannockburn, one; St. Bathan’s. The out-patients under treatment were from Clyde, one ; Alexandra, one ; Strode and Fraser’s station, one. On the reading of the report a discussion t arose respecting those patients who were admitted into the institution as destitute persons, and who weto in a position to pay for their maintenance ; and it was questioned if such patients could not be com' polled to pay. It was ultimately arranged that the Secretary be instructed to make inquires as to the position of all patients admitted, and report at each meeting. The Secretary’s attention was likewise called to the diminution of subscriptions. A letter from A. D. Harvey, Esq. was read, stating that the amount realized by the Dramatic Entertainment, given in aid of the Institution, in the Town-hall, Clyde, •was £2O Bs. Resolved, That a vote of thanks bo M tendered -to Miss Dolly Green, M. Fleury, and Mr. MilUnm ; also to those gentlemen

who lent their, valuable assistance on the occasion. Resolved, That a minute be recorded acknowledging receipt of £2O Bs., being the proceeds of amateur dramatic performance in the Town-hall, Clyde, and that the for expenses be passed for payment. Mr. I'ache was elected by ballot a member of tbe Visiting Committee, in the place of Mr. George, retiring. Resolved, That the Secretary be instructed to write' o tbeGoldfields Members, requesting them to use their influence during next session of the Provincial Council to have the subsidy to hospitals, on the Goldfields increased from £2 to £3 to every£l raised, and that the Queenstown and Tuapeka Committees be also written*to ask : ng their co-operation. Mr. Fiiche said he had heard outside that certain complaints against the management of the Institution would he laid before tbe meeting, and asked , whether any such complaints ha 1 been received. The Secretary replied that no complaints had been'raceived, Mr. Forand said he was surprised to hear the reply of the Secretary, as he had heard that -complaints had been positively sent in to the Committee, and would suggest that the question and reply be inserted iu the minutes. A vote of thanks to the Chair conclu led the business of the meeting.
