(FROil OUR OWN CO.illtt'PONO . T.) ~ Mm oh 17. 'There is'lmt little: o( interest -to report o i mining matters in'this •t.isci’ot The various sluicing parties are pursuing the even tenor of their way, with more or less I
success, and, as a general rule, things look healthy. In the prospectors’ claim at Butcher’s Gully the party are down about seventy two two feet, and at that depth have put in a drive of about twelve or fourteen feet, but have as not as yet succeeded in finding the reef. It is contemplation to forth a company for the purpose of following the reef down in the original shaft. The Hercules are down about seventy feet, but have suspended operations pending a meeting of those interested in the dilferent claims in the district. The other claims are doing more or less work, and I hope soon to have to report to you the development of the quartz mines in this district. On Wednesday evening Miss Dolly Green and M. Fleury gave their popular monologue entertainment at the large hall at the Royal Mail Hotel, T •-e room was well rill <l, and the company appeared well pleased with the very clever entertainment, hut as I have no doubt a report of the performance at Clyde will appear inyour issue of to-morrow, and as the entertainment at both places was virtually the fame, I will pot take Up J olir space by entering into particulars, and Will merely say that everything passed off pleasantly, and the audience separated, highly pleased with the evening's amusement. The news from the Serpentine district is very meagre, hut What iitile reaches us is encouraging. A gno ; deal of t . citement was caused here yester -ay by the receipt of the news of the 1 >' rg'c yiel: of the crushing of the Cromwell Quanz Reef Company, and some few talk of paying a visi the gold bearing district of Bendi.o Gully. We expect soon to have the various dredges iu operation, and then I hope to be able to send you more interesting matter to chronicle.
