Th-ough some misadventure our usual Escort returns have not come to hand We are informed, however, that rhe following quantities were taken down from the places named : Queenstown 17390z Odwt. Arrowtowu Go9oz Odwt. Cromwell 820oz Odwt’ Clyde GOGoz Odwt. Alexandra 180oz Odw. 39.540z Odwt. Saturday last witnessed the christen - ing of the new dredge at Clyde. This machine has been built by some of our enterprising townspeople, and is of a very superior order of construction. The vessel was unostentatiously floated (iff the previous day. The owners, however, considered that, the affair ought not to jiass off without some little jollification, and consequently invited their friends to be present at the ceremony of naming the craft, and a so to partake of the good things of this life which they so liberally provided for their delectation. Mrs Thomas M'Morran, wife of one of the proprietors, stoodsponsor, and smashed the usual bottle of champagne against the bows in gallant style, naming the vessel the Hartley, after the name of one of the pioneers of the Duns'tUn Goldfields. Vincent Pyke, Esq., then addiessed those present (some seventy persons, including a great number of ladies), and warmly expressed his satisfaction and the pleasu.ie it gave him to see the energy and enterprise displayed by the people of Clyde. He said that when he first took up his abode in this district he was under the impression that it *»-as a poor worn-out old place ; in three months after he began t > think that he had made a wrong estimate of it; in six mouths he knew that his first opinion was wrong ; and now he was fully convinced that the district, as regarded gold-mining, was merely in its infancy, and that a large amount of prosperity was in store for those who had persevered in developing our resources. Mr. Pyke concluded by proposing the health and prosperity of the owners of the Hartley Dredge, which toast was enthusiastically responded to. Messrs. Parks, M'Morran, and Archer very briefly returned thanks. The health of the ladies was proposed, and met with a similar reception After a little delay the toast was responded to by two very bashful young bachelors, and the jxirty then separated Tn reference to the advertisement in another column, notifying that the itev. E. Eoyer, Catholic Priest, will preach at Clyde on Sunday evening next, wo would beg to draw especial attention to the meeting to he holdsn after the service, and urge upon the members of the Cath lie Church to attend. The reverend gentleman informs us that he is now permanently settled iu the district, and, as Clyde is the centre, he will, in all likelihood hold two services here during the month. ..

M the sale of town and suburban sections, Clyde, held on Saturday last, at the Court House, by Mr. G. T. George, surveyor, over twenty lota were disposed of, realising about 200/. With but one exception, the upset piice only was obtained. Our reader’s must beat in mind that all forma of claims entitling persons to be placed upon the Electoral 801 l for either House of l egislature must be in the hands of the Regis •tration Officer before the end of March currentIn consequence of Vincent Pyke, Esq., R. M. and Warden, having to visit Cromwell on Tuesday last, there was no business transacted in the Clyde Court. The members of the Court Star of Cromwel 1 , Ancient Order of Foresters, gave their anniversary ball at the Cromwell Hotel on Friday evening last. There was a fair attendance, though hardly so numerous as might have been expected. Host Kidd provided a most excellent supper, which was presided over by Bro. Beck, C.R Court Star of Dunstan, the vice-chair being occupied by Bro. Marsh. Mr. Barnes officiated as Master of the Ceremonies, and the hand, consisting of Messrs. Mil bum Rock, and WheHer, gave, universal satisfaction. Altogether a very p'easant evening was spent, and the company did not separate until after daylight. On Sunday night last and early on Monday morning this district, was visited by a storm of wind. We have not heard of any damage having been sustained in this immediate neighborhood, but the frame-work of the building in course of erection for a Roman Catholic Church at Cromwell was blown down. A man named John Wilburns, a bullock-driver on M‘Lean’s station, was received into the Dunstan Hospital a few days ago, suffering from iiijnri s received from the wheel of the dray passing over him. The Daily Times says —“ That one tender only for the construction ot the Clutha line of railway has been received by the Provincial Government, the tenderer being Mr. Millar, F.S A. An advertisement calling for tenders has been published for some months past in the leading journals of the neighbouring colonies, the Ist of March being fixed as the last day on which tenders could be sent in.” Mr Fache requests ns to draw the attention of residents in the district of Drybrcad to the sale of books he intends holding on Saturday the 19th inst.— -[See ad vertisement.] Wc have to nckoowlcdge the receipt of the Anpendice? to the Journals of the Housi ot Representatives for the year 1869.
